Between 2008 and 2019, GL STEEL carried out investment, renovation and modernization works at the largest production plants in Poland and Europe, such as PKN ORLEN S.A. in Płock, Anwil Włocławek, Orlen Lietuva, “Remontowa” Shiprepair Yard in Gdańsk, Kozienice Power Station, Bełchatów Power Station, LNG Terminal in Świnoujście, Södra Cell Värö, Borealis Berningen, Borealis Antwerpen. Selected major GL STEEL projects have been introduced below:

“Installation of drainage and supply pipelines to the AT-605 cooler, section S-001/1 of KT-1/1 on the premises of the ORLEN Lietuva joint-stock company” Scope of work:

  • Preparation and development of a work safety plan, waste management plan, welding works plan, approval with the Orlen Lietuva design team, environmental protection, occupational health and safety and technical inspection departments.
  • Pipe capping and uncapping according to the technological diagrams.
  • Installation of S-614/1,2 pumps
  • Prefabrication and installation of new pipelines – DN300, DN 250, DN200, DN150, DN100, DN50, DN25 according to the OLP00052 design
  • Prefabrication and installation of pipeline supports.
  • • Installation of control and measuring equipment (safety valves, flow meters, shut-off valves etc.)
  • • Modernization of the F-607 filter according to the OLP00052 design.
  • • Pipeline painting in accordance with the requirements of Orlen Lietuva.
  • • Performing NDT tests in accordance with LST EN 13480-5
  • • Preparation and submission of documentation (tank and pipeline data books, etc.) of new pipelines in accordance with the standards and requirements of Orlen Lietuva

“Mechanical reconstruction – construction works “Flares D-4 and D-5 in OS-2 Residue Deep Conversion Complex Flare Farm” at the ORLEN LIETUVA production plant. Scope:

  • Pipe capping and uncapping Pipe capping and uncapping,
  • Disassembly of DN 600, DN50, DN25 pipelines, all cuts made with non-sparking tools.
  • • Preparation and installation of new DN600, DN50, DN25 pipelines,
  • • Preparation and installation of new pipeline supports,
  • • Performing the required NDT of pipelines in accordance with LST EN 13480-5 (100% gamma ray radiographic testing),
  • • Preparation and submission of technical documentation of the modernized pipelines in accordance with the requirements of ORLEN LIETUVA.

Modernization of the process furnace KR-301 / 1,2 – OS-1; LK-2; S-300. Scope of works:

  • • preparation and development of a work safety plan, waste management plan, welding works plan, approval with the Orlen Lietuva design team, environmental protection, occupational health and safety and technical inspection departments.
  • • Pipe capping and uncapping according to the technological diagrams.
  • • Dismantling of old furnace burners (12 pcs.) / installation of new furnace burners (16 pcs.)
  • • Disassembly of the furnace bottom / assembly of a new furnace bottom modernized for installation of new furnace burners
  • • Welding tie-ins in the furnace body (32 pcs)
  • • Installation of a damper with its support structure
  • • Dismantling of old pipelines – fuel gas, utility air and instrumentation air, steam collectors
  • • Prefabrication and installation of new pipelines – fuel gas, utility air and instrumentation air, steam collectors – DN 250, DN200, DN150, DN100, DN50, DN25.
  • • Prefabrication and installation of pipeline supports.
  • • Installation of control and measuring equipment (safety valves, flow meters, shut-off valves etc.)
  • • Installation of thermocouples inside the KR-301 / 1,2 furnace body (16 pcs.)
  • • Pipeline painting in accordance with the requirements of Orlen Lietuva.
  • • Performing NDT tests in accordance with LST EN 13480-5
  • • Preparation and submission of documentation (furnace and pipeline data books, etc.) of new pipelines in accordance with the standards and requirements of Orlen Lietuva.

OLP00731 – Natural gas supply for the refinery on the premises of Orlen Lietuva joint stock company in Mažeikiai in Lithuania. Scope:

  • Prefabrication and assembly of new DN 250-DN25 pipelines (process pipelines for natural gas, approx. 1000 meters long, and underground DN250 pipeline, approx. 560 meters long, also other process pipelines)
  • Prefabrication and installation of pipeline supports and steel structures.
  • Performing NDT tests in accordance with LST EN 13480-5
  • Preparation and submission of documentation of new pipelines in accordance with the standards and requirements of Orlen Lietuva.

EPC project for optimization of energy consumption at the LK-2 crude oil distillation installation. “CDU HEAT EXCHANGE OPTIMIZATION”

GL STEEL provided engineering supervision, design, procurement of materials and production of all design elements for mechanical, construction, automation and electrical works. The scope of the works included:

  • P&ID preparation, mechanical, construction, automation and electrical design, as well as participation in HAZOP.
  • Installation of new TK-159,160,163 plate heat exchangers and TK-151,152 condensers.
  • • Replacement of existing heat exchangers
    – LK-2 TK-106/1 for TK-162
    – LK-2 TK-106/V for TK-157
    – LK-2 TK-106/A for TK-156
  • Connecting existing heat exchangers to new ones, as well as K-101 distillation column with new condensers using process pipelines.
  • Installation of new S-183/184 HAGO pumps
  • Procurement and installation of new safety valves (5 pcs.)
  • Procurement and installation of new gate and other valves (138 pcs. diameter from ½ ” to 24″)
  • Procurement and installation of automatic valves (solenoid valves) FV-1000 A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H with larger diameters
  • Modification of the existing TK-108 heat exchanger including cleaning, inspection and commissioning.
  • Procurement of materials, prefabrication and assembly of pipelines amounting to approx.. 350 tons of carbon steel (diameter range from DN15 to DN600)
  • Steel structure fabrication (75 tons)
  • Procurement and installation of electrical and automatic equipment.
  • Implementation of the DCS system.
  • Construction works.
  • Procurement and installation of insulation.
  • Preparation and submission of mechanical, construction, automation and electrical documentation in accordance with the requirements of Orlen Lietuva.

Prefabrication of transmission and process pipelines – Project „Södra Cell Värö expansion”, client – Nordic Power Service OY.

  • Prefabrication of DN50 – DN1200 pipelines. Range of materials – stainless steel; duplex; super duplex; SMO; titanium; carbon steel. The total inch-dia: approx. 65 000.

Complete renovation of K-201 column “GP-2 FCC Main fractionator K-201 internals replacement” Orlen Lietuva. The scope of works:

  • Preparation of the K-201 column for technical inspection
  • Disassembly of internal column elements – shelves, shelf support structures, distributor and FLEXPACK insert.
  • Welding in new shelf support structures, distributor.
  • Installation of new column shelves and FLEXPACK insert
  • Repair of the inner lining surface of the column following a technical inspection
  • Disassembly and installation as well as testing of fire sprinklers.

Column renovation works “GP-1 LK-2 CDU -Columns K-102, K-103/1,2 and K-105 – replacement of internal column elements” Orlen Lietuva. Scope of works:

  • Preparation of the K-102, K-103/1,2 and K-105 columns for technical inspection
  • Disassembly of internal column elements – shelves, shelf support structures, distributor and FLEXPACK insert in the K-102, K-103/1,2 columns
  • Installation of new column shelves, new shelf support structures, distributor and FLEXPACK insert in the K-102, K-103/1,2 columns
  • Repair of the inner lining surface of the column following a technical inspection
  • Disassembly of the K-105 column shelves and chemical cleaning
  • Installation of the K-105 column shelves
  • Preparation of final documentation as-built.

Participation in maintenance shutdown “Borealis PP1 Maintenance Shutdown, October 2018” and “Borealis TA Maintenance Shutdown, 11-2018” at the Borealis Berningen & Borealis Antwerpen chemical plant in Belgium. Client: Engie-Fabricom. Scope of works:

  • Capping and uncapping of pipelines and process equipment
  • Preparation of pipelines, heat exchangers, columns and tanks for technical inspection.
  • Disassembly/assembly of flange connections
  • Welding tie-ins into the existing process pipelines
  • Disassembly of pipelines
  • Installation of new high pressure pipelines – diameter range from DN25 to DN350 made of carbon steel and austenitic steel
  • Installation of new pipeline supports

Installation of pipelines at the “SEA TANK 700” investment site in Antwerpen, Belgium. Client: Engie-Fabricom.

  • Installation of DN50 – DN400 pipelines. Range of materials – stainless steel; duplex; super duplex; carbon steel.
